RoboBots Film Premiere on July 17

Mentor— 6/4/2019 The Alliance for Working Together Foundation announced today that the documentary film “RoboBots,” will premiere at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater on July 17, 2019.

The film is centered around one of AWT’s most highly-lauded and impactful programs: RoboBots. The program is an annual, year-long combat robotics competition in which high schoolers across Northeast Ohio compete to build the best combat robot so that they can emerge as the sole RoboBots champion at the competition in April. Each team is paired with a manufacturer in the region which allows students to have access to the valuable resources (both in knowledge and equipment) that the manufacturers possess. This partnership also allows students to make meaningful connections within the industry while gaining first-hand experiences in manufacturing.

Filmed during the 2018 competition, students from Madison, Cleveland Heights, Beaumont, Harvey, Auburn and twenty other local high schools are featured in the film.  The story in particular looks at Fredon’s relationship with the ‘Bots program, and takes the audience through some of the drama and excitement that occurs in the competition.

The evening of the film premiere will begin at 3:00 pm with EdgeFactor leading a workforce discussion on the role film and video have in influencing people’s career choices. At 4:30 pm, the doors for the film will open and guests can walk the red carpet while a photographer takes pictures of the event. All guests are invited to dress up in finery, tuxedo T-shirts, or their robot team T-shirts and pose for a free photo.  At 5:00 pm, AWT will give an introduction and two short SteamFactor videos will be played followed by another short discussion by EdgeFactor. The film will begin at 5:30 pm followed by a Q and A from the lead editor. Afterwards, attendees can enjoy the reception which is expected to begin at 6:00 pm.

“We are so excited to share not just the excitement of this event, but also to demonstrate how much these kids are learning when they are a part of this program,” said AWT Executive Director Alice Cable.
